"Spike 150 Train"
Title:  "Spike 150 Train"
Description:  The "Spike 150 Train" heads east by the rest area at Weber Canyon, Utah, May 12, 2019. "Big Boy" 4-8-8-4 and "Living Legend" 4-8-4 # 844 pull the train! UP ordered twenty five of "Big Boy" locomotives between 1941 and 1944. The frame is “articulated” with two sets of driving wheels, perfect for negotiating tight mountain turns. 4014 was built in 1941. 4014 last steamed in 1959 and eventually was restored to operation, converted to run with oil and put in service specifically for use during the anniversary celebrations in 2019. 844 was UPs last steam locomotive purchased in 1944 and has never been retired and also was converted to run with oil. "Spike 150 Train"
Title:  "Spike 150 Train"
Description:  The "Spike 150 Train" heads east through the Echo Canyon, Utah, on its way to Evanston, Wyoming, May 12, 2019. We luckily got ahead of this train by driving down Echo Canyon Road thanks to finding a good route on my newly purchased Utah DeLorme atlas. We got ahead of the crowd from Echo, UT going east. People passed us around "Blind Curves!!!!" I used my "MA" motor drive out the rear window! "Big Boy" 4-8-8-4 leads the train! UP ordered twenty five "Big Boy" locomotives between 1941 and 1944. The frame is “articulated” with two sets of driving wheels, perfect for negotiating tight mountain turns. 4014 was built in 1941 and last steamed in 1959. It eventually was restored to operation, converted to run with oil and put in service specifically for use during the anniversary celebrations in 2019. Algers, Winslow & Western SD9!!!!
Title:  Algers, Winslow & Western SD9!!!!
Description:  My only time I witnessed old Algers, Winslow and Western SD9s. Taken at the Indiana Eastern Railroad yard, July 25, 2019. I also saw AWW SD9 #206 pulling the train north into the yard. AWW #205, however is stored on an overgrown track and not being used. I hope this engine operates again. Indiana Eastern got a high hood GP38-2 that was being prepped for paint at this time! They started using it later in 2019. I do not know if AWW SD9 #206 is being used. A worker though said it was going to be back up power to the GP38-2! However, recently (March 2020) sister railroad Squaw Creek Southern scrapped the other two AWW SD9s (there were 4 total)! Glad I got two on this trip. Photo taken with permission.
